বর্তমান বিশ্বে বিবাহ বিচ্ছেদের হার ক্রমাগত বৃদ্ধি পাচ্ছে। বাংলাদেশে বিগত ১৫ বছরে তালাকের সংখ্যা উল্লেখযোগ্যভাবে বৃদ্ধি পেয়েছে। ২০২২ সালে প্রতি হাজার জনসংখ্যায় তালাকের হার ছিল ১.৪%, যা ২০২১ সালে ছিল ০.৭%. তালাকের প্রধান কারণ হলো বিবাহবহির্ভূত সম্পর্ক (২৩%) এবং দাম্পত্য জীবনে বনিবনার অভাব (২২%). চাকরিজীবী মেয়েদের তুলনায় গৃহিণীদের মধ্যে তালাকের হার বেশি.
